WNC – Free activities at mini literary festival Week of Words
Please see below details of activities that are available for young people, or families or adults, during a weeklong event which will be taking place in Northampton.

For Young People
- Wed 5 – Fri 7 Aug 12pm-2pm: free spoken word poetry sessions for Northants young people 13-17yrs from Quinton Green. These are relaxed small group sessions and we provide lunch. Attend 1 or all 3. Sign up via Events Schedule | Northampton Film Festival 2026 and The Creative Place
- Sat 8 Aug 10am-4pm: free drop-in poetry for children of any age
They can enter any poetry they write into a free competition through us run by Northamptonshire Community Foundation.
For Families
- Tue 4 Aug 10am-4pm: Northamptonshire Children’s Book Group will be selling new children’s books for just 50p (£1 for hardbacks) plus our volunteers will be there to read to children (free)
- Wed 12 Aug 11am-12pm: Free storytelling under a gazebo on the Market Square 2 Weeks of Words: Spin a Tale with Anansi! An Interactive Family Storytelling Adventure – free | Northampton Film Festival 2026 and The Creative Place
For Adults
- Wed 12 Aug 1pm-2pm: Free author talk at NNHS 2 Weeks of Words: Northampton’s Michael Davies talks about his Cosy Crime Club series – free | Northampton Film Festival 2026 and The Creative Place
- Thur 12 Aug 12.30 – 1.45pm: Free author talk at NNHS 2 Weeks of Words: Sue Turbett’s ‘Eagle Sister’ from BBC News to the mountains of Kyrgyzstan | Northampton Film Festival 2026 and The Creative Place
- Tue 11 Aug 7pm-9pm: This isn’t free but is only £10 including a drink and cake at Lawrence’s Coffeehouse! 2 Weeks of Words: Pop-up Poetry Night – Write and Share | Northampton Film Festival 2026 and The Creative Place
